I have a confession to make. I am a hoarder.
In recent months, I’ve become increasingly more aware of my “problem”. I am storing a Christmas tree in my closet, so my space for clothing has dramatically decreased. Every morning when I get dressed, I have to wrestle hangers and dresses in order to get anything out. Last week I finally got fed up. I realized that many of my things were bought years ago… IN HIGH SCHOOL. Unfortunately, being a hoarder, I have a hard time parting with things. What if I need a giant reindeer sweater again? Or my ruffled denim jacket? Inspired by Carrie and the girls in the “Sex and the City” movie, I decided I needed to make cleaning out my closet an event– Yes, No, and Maybe signs, cocktails, and a couple of my girlfriends.
I needed a cocktail that was tasty, easy to make, and served more than one at a time. Champagne cocktails are always a hit with my friends (mimosas, bellinis…), so I decided a Kir Royale was a good option. Here’s the recipe I used for Kir Royale with Vanilla Cognac.
Kir Royale with Vanilla Cognac
- 1 cup Cognac or Brandy
- 1 Vanilla Bean, split lengthwise
- 1/2 cup Creme de Cassis (black currant flavored liqueur)
- 3 750 ml bottles Brut Champagne
At least one day ahead, combine the Cognac and vanilla bean to allow the flavors to mix.
Pour 1 teaspoon of the Vanilla Cognac and 2 teaspoons of Creme de Cassis into each of 12 champagne flutes (or wine glass, in my case). Fill each glass with champagne and serve.
**I wanted to add a little garnish, so I added a couple blackberries to each glass.
My friends and I enjoyed this drink a lot. It is sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, and has a lot of different flavors that come together nicely. It’s a unique twist on the basic Kir Royal (champagne and creme de cassis). This was just the boost we needed to have a good time going through my mess of a closet!
Out with the old (clothes), in with the new (cocktails)!
