Please excuse my absence last week! The campaign I was working on more or less took over my life. Now that the election is over, I’m back!
The past few weeks, my diet has been terrible. There have been multiple factors contributing to my unhealthy decisions, but the biggest problem has been my attitude. I’ve had a bit of a “Rhett Butler” approach to things (“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”). My hips are now paying the price. With Nutcracker rehearsals now just one week away, it’s time to give a damn.
I wanted to jump start my return to health with a bit of a detox. I’m not the type of person that can survive a cleanse, so instead of cutting things out, I’m adding things back in. Particularly, greens! Leafy greens have been seriously lacking in my diet lately, so I’m coming up with creative ways to make sure I’m getting enough of them. Green smoothies are a great way to do that! This Green Apple Smoothie was delicious.
Green Apple Smoothie
- 2-3 cups spinach
- 1/2 English cucumber, chopped
- 1/3 avocado, chopped
- 1 Granny Smith apple, chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup apple juice
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth, about 30 seconds.
**If you like icy smoothies, add a few ice cubes or freeze the fruit.
Green smoothies are packed with nutrients, and adding fruit makes them sweet and tasty. There are so many different flavors to try! I’ve seen some people that toss nut butters into their green smoothies. YUM! If I let myself keep nut butters in the house, I’d be all over that. I’ll let you know if I try any other exciting blends.
